About the Dugong
The dugong (Dugong dugon) is a large, fully marine mammal found in the warm coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region, from East Africa to Australia. Closely related to manatees, dugongs are members of the order Sirenia, a lineage that evolved from terrestrial ancestors millions of years ago.
